Note: ‘The Integration of the Day’ is where I take two or more web services and create a HYPOTHETICAL integration. This is not an announcement or breaking news, just the thoughts of a fellow entrepreneur. I’d like to thank Charlie O’Donnell for the idea (Check out his blog, it’s a great resource on the startup space).
Today’s ‘Integration of the Day’ is a mash-up of website builder Squarespace with online video editor Motionbox and web-based visual and audio suite Aviary. Squarespace offers a simple set of features to create and manage websites, from blogs to small business websites. With a great in-browser editing interface, dynamic templates, and integrated analytics makes Squarespace a useful tool for users of any stripe to build and update their sites. Squarespace takes care of the back-end and allows you to customize your site on the front-end, but it doesn’t offer a set of tools for creating or modifying images, video, and audio. Integrations with Aviary and Motionbox would fill this void.
User Experience: I’ve decided to create a new website for a publishing business. I go to Squarespace and begin building. I design a site with a homepage, blog, e-commerce section, about section, a consulting services section, and podcast page. I create a logo and background with Aviary, then edit a video resume in Motionbox for the consulting section (something like Barney Stinson’s). As I keep blogging and adding products to the ecommerce portion, I can add and edit images, audio, and video in Aviary and Motionbox. I can then easily manage and post the content using Squarespace’s CMS.
Monetization: Squarespace can sell Aviary and Motionbox as add-on services. The integrations enhance their product and provide additional revenue streams while minimizing development costs. Since Squarespace does not have a freemium model, only providing a free 14 day trial, their users are more likely to be small enterprises which Motionbox and Aviary could convert to premium users. Their customer base is already composed of SAAS early adopters, further increasing the likelihood of conversions.
I’d love to hear your comments, you can do so below using Disqus. Send me any integration suggestions at integrationoftheday@gmail.com.
